Melanie Shirilla is a Level 1 Crossfit Instructor. She also holds certifications for personal training through AFAA, as well as a Sports Performance Coaching Certification through USA Weightlifting. She comes from a running background, having taken up running in her teens. She has completed multiple marathons, as well as 2 ultras. She believes the incorporation of Crossfit into her training program is responsible for the improvements in her running, as well as in her posture, flexibility and strength. As a Crossfit Trainer she is continually inspired by witnessing the physical and mental transformations that happen as Crossfit builds confidence and self-esteem in those who regularly participate. Prior to becoming a Crossfit Instructor, Melanie
enjoyed a career as a professional sled dog trainer and racer, completing the 1,100-mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race in 2005, and becoming a 4-time champion of the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (the largest, most competitive race of its kind in the world). During the summer, she competes in endurance 50-100 mile endurance horseback races which can be 4-12 hours. Melanie believes Crossfit methods are second-to-none when it comes to preparing for the varied hours, conditions, terrain, physical and mental demands on the human athlete in both sports. She is very excited to be part of the Crossfit Helena family! She can be reached at (406)439-2702, or via e-mail at girliemusher@yahoo.com.
